How to Fall in Love With Cleaning

I have a confession to make. I reallyyyy dislike cleaning. I often fantasize about how great life would be if I had a housekeeper. Even though I dislike cleaning, I love coming home to a clean house everyday! While you may not fall in love with cleaning, these tips will help make your chores more enjoyable.

1. Combine chores with other tasks you enjoy

Whether I’m waiting for a face mask to dry or deep conditioning my hair, I try to use that time to straighten up the house. You’d be surprised how much you can do in just that short amount of time. Do you like to talk on the phone? If so, that’s the best time to fold a load of laundry. The possibilities are endless.

For if someone does not know how to manage his own household, how will he care for God's church? 1 Timothy 3:5

2. Play Music

Music makes almost every chore tolerable. The Pandora app makes it easy to listen to music while you sweep, mop, wash dishes...everything!

And when it comes, it finds the house swept and put in order. Luke 11:25

3. Time Yourself

If I’ve had a really long week, I usually don’t like to spend my weekend doing chores around the house. Instead, I commit to spending one hour cleaning on Saturday and one hour cleaning on Sunday. Again, you will be shocked at how much you can get done in an hour. Sometimes I get in the groove of cleaning and I finish it all on Saturday so I can have a relaxing Sunday.

She looks well to the ways of her household and does not eat the bread of idleness. Proverbs 31:25

4. Consistency is key

Once I started reserving 15 minutes a day for chores, it made a huge difference. Being proactive saved a lot of time instead of waiting until everything piled up at the end of the week. Most importantly, I make an effort to wash every dish at the end of the day because it makes a big difference. What small tasks can you do every day to stay consistent and keep your house clean?

But all things should be done decently and in order. 1 Corinthians 14:40 

5. Make it as easy as possible
